Birdhill 4 - Rearcross U-13's 2

Rearcross U-13's lost out to a physically stronger Birdhill side in this Shield Quater Final game played at the away venue on Thursday evening. Birdhill pressed from the off and came close when the ball skidded of the post in the second minute and bagged the opener three minutes later when Karl Kelly was on the mark. The visitors enjoyed a dominant spell and a good shot from Stephen Rochford was saved on the line. Jack Ryan doubled the Birdhill tally with a fine free kick effort. Rearcross then came close when Cillian Kennedy's shot was deflected on to the post. The Rea boys brought it back to minimum with a cracking finish from Stephen Rochford from out on the right, however the hosts took a 3-1 lead to the break after Karl Kelly broke on the left to finish from a tight angle. Rearcross made a promising start to the second half and pegged it back to 3-2 when Patrick Dawson converted from the spot after good work by Eoin Sheldon. Birdhill enjoyed the better of the exchanges after this and wrapped it up in stoppage time when Karl Kelly completed his hat-trick to secure a place in the last four.
